Future pins for future wins

During the summer, the wrestling team has worked really hard and improved greatly. With one returning state qualifier, the team is going to come back even better and harder, with hopefully more state qualifiers at the end of the season. Coach Curtis Marolf sat down and talked about the amazing season the wrestling team is about to have.

What are you most looking forward to going into the upcoming season?

“All of it. I think we are going to be pretty good and I’m looking forward to getting back into the room, we are bringing almost everyone back for the most part from last year. We know what we have with Jacob and a couple of other kids and to see where Ethan and Eli progress this year should be fun.”

Do you have any specific goals?

“We usually sit down and plan out our expectations. Personally, I think every kid in that room has the potential to be a state qualifier. My goal is that they all get through to the state tournament.”

Do you have any specific expectations from your returning wrestlers?

“Be better, be awesome, just crush them all. A kid like Jacob, coming back from last year with a medal, goes from there to making it to the finals. He worked really hard in the offseason and I think that is a realistic goal that he will have. Ethan and Eli were close and I think their goals will be state qualifiers this year. Peyton got a lot better in the offseason, so I could see him making a run at being a state qualifier this year. Martin, who wrestled with us over the summer is tougher than nails. Zach Hamilton is really good and I’m excited to see him get on the mat. Andrew fellers is also pretty solid.”

What do you think will be the biggest challenges throughout the season?

“It’s always numbers. I think we do a good job in developing our kids. The more numbers you have in a room, the more competitive it is, so it’s hard to get practice partners for everyone and getting what they need out of it.”
