The World Is Unfair
Often times in this world, it seems as if no matter what we do, everyone is against us. No matter how hard we work, we are constantly drawing the short end of the stick. The world is an unfair place, were people get ahead of you based on bias and even sometimes luck. Even if you are the one that worked harder and deserved it more. But, Robert Kraft, an American businessman once said, “Sometimes, life is unfair, and you have to suck it up and move on and not use it as an excuse.” I think that, when facing the hardships and unfairness in our lives, it is good to look back and reflect on this quote, no matter how hard it may seem.
A very good example to showcase how some people manage to get ahead of you, is in sports. You and your team can practice as hard and well as you possibly can, going to lifting every morning, never slacking off at practice, and being unconditionally supportive of one another, yet, you can still lose a match against a team that has none of those things. They just happened to have a really good day, and luck was on their side. You can look at this unfortunate event in two ways, you can either sulk and be mad at the other team, your team, and maybe even yourself, or you can take the loss on the chin and grow from it. It does no use to reflect on things that you cannot control, but rather look at what you can control. What are aspects of your performance that you can improve? How can you better yourself?
We are often faced by adversity in our day to day lives, and some of it, we cannot control or do anything to stop. The world is indeed an unfair place to most people. But does it really do any good to dwell on that? Instead we should be focused on looking forward and living our lives to the best of our abilities. As author Zig Ziglar once said, “It's not the situation, but whether we react negative or respond positive to the situation that is important.”
