Wish Together, Swish together: A pre-season look into Lady Knight basketball

The last time we saw our Lady Knight Basketball team was back in February of 2017 when they were playing against Oakland Craig in the subdistricts final. Sadly they ended up losing to them and The Lady Knights ended their season with a record of 15-7. This year they are ready to play another great season. With only losing one senior, almost all the starters are back for this season. Head Coach Nate Pribnow is expecting anywhere from 17 to 20 girls to be going out this season. “For varsity level we are going to have a handful of key players. Anywhere from 8 to 10 girls will be playing on a regular basis on the varsity level,” stated Coach Pribnow, “But we really are relying on our four seniors to step up and help lead our team.” The four senior girls this season will be Mackenzie Peitzmeier, Tessa Kreikemeier, Reagan Toelle and Katie Sleister.

Some strengthens that Coach Pribnow foresees for the upcoming season is that they will be a very good shooting team. In the previous season they had one of the top shooting percentages in the state for girl’s basketball. “We also do pretty well defensively,” Coach Pribnow commented, “Last season on average we gave up 41 points which is a little higher than I would like, but it’s still pretty good.” One thing the Lady Knights want to work to improve on this season is building depth. “They are going to be some girls who have never played at a varsity level before, and it’s going to be some adjusting,” said Coach Pribnow, “It’s all going to come up to who’s going to step up and take action.”

A goal that Pribnow has for this season is to play in conference semi-finals. “With a conference full of really good C-1 teams, it would be a major accomplishment for us,” stated Pribnow. He also has the goal to be District Champions and make it to state. “State is very much achievable if we work hard over the course of the season and do what takes.”
