Dishin' and Swishin' with Coach Mlnarik

After a really good summer season, getting prepared in the weightroom, and working hard in their fall sports, the boys basketball team is ready to show off their abilities. Head Coach Ryan Mlnarik sat down and discussed the team's expectations for the upcoming season.

How has the team been preparing for the upcoming season?

“Well the majority of our guys are multi-sport athletes, so they were involved in football and cross country. For the guys who haven’t been in a sport have been doing off season workouts on their own and have worked really hard to prepare themselves for the upcoming season.”

What are you most looking forward to going into the upcoming season?

“In the game of basketball, day in and day out, you handle adversity and I think we have a handle that right at the beginning of the season. As everyone knows we have two players that would have contributed a lot to the floor for us this season (Nick Burger and Caleb Villwok), and I’m excited to see how our kids are handling that challenge that is placed in front of them. Theyre going to have to have players play different positions and play different roles they weren’t expected to or never have before, but they are very capable.”

Do have any specific goals?

“We had a tremendous summer, we had guys who were extremely committed to the weight room, and we had guys who were committed to improving their game and developing the fundamentals of their game. I’m looking forward to how their hard work in the offseason has transferred over into the season.”

Do you have any specific expectations from your returning players?

“We would expect they would be good leaders, good role models within our program, and we expect them to accept the challenge. I feel that we push our players hard and that the hard work we do in practice, that they will be leaders and accept we will work hard in practice. Working hard in practice leads to having success on the floor.”

What do you think will be the biggest challenges throughout the season?

“Staying consistent with attitude, effort, and with their toughness. Basketball is a long season, with highs and lows, so I think as a team you can’t get too high when things are great and you can’t get too low when there is some struggles you are facing throughout the season. So remaining consistent will be very important.”
