The Relationship between Music and Intelligence
It’s a Saturday evening. I’m getting ready to wind down before bed, but before I do anything else, let’s play some music to help me get into a good mood. My usual go-to is some jazz music. Maybe some alternative or indie rock and pop if I’m feeling crazy. This seemingly negligible decision may appear to be nothing more than personal preference, but could this preference mean something more than just a mere opinion?
A recent scientific study may point to the answer to this question is a yes. The findings of Virgil Griffith, a software application designer, point towards the possibility of music preference being an indicator of intelligence. These findings were not just labeled as possible, but entirely probable as well.
The focus of the study was to identify the core relation between music preference and average SAT score among college students. Among the data retrieved was evidence supporting less intelligent people listen to the likes of Lil Wayne and Beyonce, whereas those who are more intelligent will be found listening to Beethoven and Counting Crows.
The Knight Watch did some exclusive undercover interviews for the next edition of the Knight Watch Newspaper. Local Bergan Senior ruffian Nick Burger was approached by one of the Knight Watch’s interviewing crew and was asked about his opinion of Lil Wayne and the “artist’s” music. Unfortunately, upon hearing the words “Lil Wayne,” Nick was set into an illiterate frenzy, sparking off on how “Lil Wayne is the realest in the game” and how “No one can even approach Lil Wayne’s musical genius.” After stating this, foam started forming on the edges of Nick’s mouth, and he lunged at the interviewer, forcing the Knight Watch to swiftly retreat. As you can see in the previous interviews, it’s clear that the evidence the Knight Watch Newspaper Investigation Team found aligns nearly perfectly with Virgil Griffith’s research. If you enjoy these types of music, I apologize, but I’m gonna stick with the evidence.***
