Oh Hack No!

We have all seen pictures or videos on social media of “life hacks,” but do they actually work? While there are a few hacks that are useful, most of them did NOT do what they are advertised to do.

The first hack I tried out was writing notes in blue ink. This is supposedly a trick to make your brain remember what you wrote down better than if you had used black ink or pencil. The blue ink combined with writing the information down works! Another hack that is helpful if you are doing a presentation with notecards is to change text color every few lines. If you have several main ideas, this can help you to keep your place better. One life hack that miserably failed was a mixture that was "supposed" to clean white shoes and leave them looking as pristine as the day you brought them from the store. The hack called for hot water, vinegar, and baking soda. Although it was a great idea, in theory, it left the shoes looking dull in reality. The next fail was from a hack that claimed to be the perfect way to make grilled cheese sandwiches. For this hack, you are supposed to turn your toaster on its side so that the cheese can melt as the bread is toasted. However, when this method was tested, the cheese seeped off the sides of the bread and almost started an electrical fire in the toaster. Please DO NOT try this hack at home! The last hack that I couldn’t crack was putting tea bags in your shoes. The purpose of this hack is to eliminate odor. Unfortunately, one of the tea bags was ripped open, spilling the contents everywhere. On the bright side, the shoes will always smell like zesty lemon! Next time you see a hack post on social media just remember that it will probably be an "oh hack no!"
