The Fate of a Game: Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is the second installment of the Destiny franchise, it is a continuation of the story that Bungie and Activision are currently telling. This game has made significant strides to fix some fundamental problems with the first game. However, it caused a multitude of mistakes that they had previously settled in the first game, such as a loss of strike modifiers. PvP matchmaking was worse off than before, and the campaign was severely lacking, but its story was still better off than ever before in the game's history. I say this because the characters had been actually some personality and they felt like actual people. Even though the game has had some well-deserved criticism, it has made significant strides towards redemption since by offering free DLC. Then Bungie made a move towards microtransactions, which didn't sit well with the community, and to make things worse, this was during the time that destiny 2 was going through a reduction in their player base, mainly because there was nothing to do. This all changed with the drop of the first paid DLC in the series, which was “the curse of Osiris” and was a campaign that centered around the development of a character. The story since Destiny called Osiris, and the main enemies of the campaign are the Vex, whose mission is to convert all things into the evil machines that are known as the Vex. However, with the drop of this DLC came a wellspring of new content that would inevitably dry up, and with that, the main problems still persist from the base game. The next DLC of Destiny 2: Warmind. With this DLC it brought back some but not a lot of the original player base. It brought new content for players to experience and fixed some problems with the game. Matchmaking was slightly tweaked and vastly improved the matchmaking experience by shorting it to a reasonable time, but the question that the community was begging for to be fixed was still the main issue, there wasn't enough to do, and that brings me to the DLC that is out as of October of 18, forsaken. Forsaken is the most recent DLC to have dropped from Bungie and it was Destiny 2’s saving grace. It had appeared as if it has fixed all the major issue that has persisted since the original destiny game. It has added a river of content that flooded the community. It added a new game mode to the game, which was desperately needed but the community didn't know that's what it wanted and changed some of the quality of life things for the game. So if I had to make a recommendation, I would say buy forsaken, but don't get just the base game. I say this because, it felt like the player base was beta testing Destiny 2 for a whole year and had to pay $60 to do so, but it feels like destiny forsaken is the finished version of the game the community was waiting for.
